Good Works

Good Works Initiative

Purpose:

Such passages as Matthew 25:34-46 and Galatians 6:10 relate that it is commanded that we do good works first to those who are in the brotherhood, and then to those in the community.  We will strive to reach the community through various non-profit and state organizations.  As commanded by scripture, being involved in these matters are necessary for our faithfulness.  While most have the desire to do these things and many take the unavoidable opportunities to do so; it seems that most are timid to seek out such opportunities from lack of initiative or are confused on how to begin.  This program will organize opportunities and provide initiative to be involved in such good works while acting towards an evangelistic end through encouragement and by example.  “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:16.  Eventually, a larger effort involving many congregations will be an inspiration to reach, while improving public opinion of the church.  Before such efforts are made, it would be imperative to establish this effort strongly in this congregation.

Types of Good Works:

Good works for the congregation may include:

1.           Indoor/outdoor labor for assistance of the upkeep of someone’s home.

2.          Tech assistance with projects requiring trade skills if possible (eg. Automotive, appliance, carpentry difficulties)

3.          Visitation-elderly, sick, bereaved, etc. for encouragement, Bible Study, and compassion services such as preparing meals, preparing gift and flowers baskets.

4.          Transportation services to those who need travel: to/from medical, stores, church building, etc.

5.          Errand services-pickup of prescriptions, groceries, bill pay, etc.

6.          Benevolence work

Good Works for the community may include: (All community efforts must be pre-arranged and approved by person or organization receiving services)

1.           Participation in state-run programs like homeless shelters, hospice, etc.

2.          Visitation, Bible Study in hospitals, prisons, assisted living homes, etc.

3.          Establish and participate in community outreach efforts such as correspondence table in front of the church, outreach events to local college, etc.

4.          Any other pre-arranged and reasonable good work
